Our Mission

The Southwest Community Center has been serving the low-income residents of Orange County for more than 35 years. Our mission is to provide the basic needs of food, clothing, shelter, household items, referral services and other support services to the homeless, low-income and economically disadvantaged in an effort to enable them to become or retain self-sufficiency.

The Southwest Community Center depends upon the support of many individuals and groups to accomplish its mission. We are always in need of support because of increasing costs, clients’ escalating needs and, more recently, shortfalls in funding grants and financial support. To this end, we continually seek financial support, donations of food and clothing and the like, as well as volunteer support. It is only through such support that we can continue to meet the needs of those individuals we are committed to serve. We accept all ages of volunteers; students, in particular,Swcc0010006.jpg may use our volunteer activities to fulfill requirements for community service. To volunteer, please contact Jessie Allen or Connie Jones, Executive Director at the telephone numbers shown above.

We also accept donations of food items, hygiene products, clothing (new and used), reading materials, paper goods for use in the office and kitchen and infants' items.

Our Needs

Contribute food
We accept contributions of canned and packaged foods from individuals. We also accept surplus food from restaurants and groceries. Try a canned food drive through your school or employer. We can never have too much, and it all goes to the needy.

Contribute clothing
We accept used and new clothing for distribution to children and adults.

Contribute toys
We accept used and new toys for distribution to children.

Contribute money

Contribute gift cards from Costco, Staples, or Smart & Final.
We can then replenish office supplies and paper goods as needed.

Contribute time and skill
We all have special skills and knowledge that can contribute to our mission. Our building is old and needs electrical, structural and cosmetic upgrades. We can use office help, computer input and modernization, clerical help and help working with our clients. Whatever your gifts and skills, you are welcome at SMEDA.
