Build it Better!
Question: “Are the Center’s facilities going to be REBUILT?”
Response: “Yes. Unfortunately, we cannot save the original structure. So we’re going to build a new and better facility from the ground up. The new facilities will be adequate to offer all of the services we were providing before the fire, and a few new services to better address the community’s needs.
Question: “Will the Center’s new facilities be BIGGER than they were before?”
Response: “Yes. The Center’s new facilities will be BIGGER and BETTER than before. The current building plans almost double the square footage of the previous building. The new facilities will also be more efficient and enable us to more sensitively respond to the needs of our clients. The new facilities will be more comfortable for clients and staff, “up to code”, safe, and in compliance with all City and County building requirements.”
Question: “What NEW SERVICES are planned for the Center?”
Response: “The new Center will include Hygiene services for the homeless, Health services for families, and Job Search services for the unemployed and under-employed.”
Question: “What is the NAME of SWCC’s fundraising effort?”
Response: “We’re calling our fundraising effort ‘Build It Better’ because we see the recent fire as an opportunity to enhance the scope and quality of the services the Center provides.”
Question: “What is the CURRENT STATUS of the rebuilding effort?”
Response: “The Sares-Regis Group has chosen to lead the Center’s rebuilding project as their annual Community Service Project, and a conditional use permit, enabling the project to proceed as planned, has just been approved by the City of Santa Ana.. Groundbreaking is planned for September. Sares-Regis is encouraging the professionals and sub-contractors it works with to support the project with donations of services and materials.
Question: “What does the Center need to COMPLETE the rebuilding project?”
“While much has been given and promised, the Center still needs building materials and services to complete the facility, and funds to equip and furnish, and operate and maintain the new facility. The Center especially needs support for an expanded number of staff positions to fully utilize the new facility”
Question: “HOW MUCH has the Center raised so far?”
Response: “The estimated value of the new facilities is approximately $1.1 million. The Center has received more than $200,000 in spontaneous donations following news accounts of the fire. An insurance settlement, a large anonymous donation, and important support from long-time supporters will probably result in approximately $300,000 of additional support. In-kind donations of services and materials are difficult to predict, but are expected to be substantial.”
Question: “HOW LONG will it take to rebuild the Center?”
Response: “The Center is planning to occupy its new facilities by the end of 2010.”
